If you’re like me, you’d better go for off the beaten path adventure. The types of places you can’t find in a review app or in a hotel lobby coupon book. As water-loving boaters, we long for remote places, uncrowded waterways and enriching boating experiences. There may not be many really secret boat spots left in modern civilization, but it doesn’t stop me from finding the best ones you’ve never heard of. Here are a few boat spots that are worth visiting.
Newly Found Lake, New Hampshire
This pristine lake, known as the cleanest lake in the world, is fed by spring and is surrounded by beautiful views of mountains and forests. It’s known for less traffic than some of the nearby lakes, and the quaint lake town has amenities for the marina and boat rentals.
Redfish Lake, Idaho
This alpine lake is located in the Sawtooth National Recreation Area and is known for its abundance of sockeye salmon. There is only one marina on the lake with historic cabins, boat rentals, beach area, camping, incredible mountain views and one spot on our list of secret boat spots.
Columbia River Gorge, Oregon
This river is the water line between Oregon and Washington and offers breathtaking scenery from snow-capped mountain peaks to waterfalls. The untouched wilderness makes a trip along the Columbia River Gorge seem like a journey back in time and one of the most incredible boat spots in the USA
Lake Eufaula, Oklahoma
This 102,000 acre lake is the largest in the state, making it one of the best places to go boating. White sandy beaches and healthy fish populations attract avid boaters and anglers alike, but off-water activities are equally popular in the two adjacent state parks and scenic prairies.
Lake Dillon, Colorado
Tucked away in the Rocky Mountains, Lake Dillon is home to the world’s highest deep-sea port at 9,000 feet above sea level. Known as a world-class sailing lake, there are also plenty of water sports available such as boat rentals, stand up paddleboarding, and sailing lessons.
Be sure to read your local water laws and regulations before you hit the water at these secret boating spots. Many may have restrictions on the types of boats, speeds, and times of the year you can access the waters. Enjoy!
