Taffy and Hadley have a beautiful friendship that is heartwarming to anyone who knows them. I rescued Taffy, a 12 pound Chihuahua Terrier mix, about 14 years ago. She will be 16 this December. She has one eye and is both blind and mostly deaf. About a year ago she developed a mild cough that quickly became chronic and severe. We went to our vet every 2 to 4 weeks for the first few months for blood tests, x-rays, ultrasounds, etc. She is now being treated for chronic bronchitis and will be on steroids for the rest of her life. She also has canine dementia which is heartbreaking to watch. She is a very different little girl than before. But aren’t we all when we get older?
Hadley is my 4 year old great niece. Your mother is more than just my niece, she is one of my best friends. Hadley and Taffy fell in love the first time they met. Hadley was only a few days old when she and Taffy met – it was love at first sight.
What a beautiful and genuine friendship they share! I love watching them interact with each other. It’s one of the cutest things I’ve ever seen. It is the definition of unconditional love!
Seeing Hadley gently pats Taffy and my old girl relaxes with every slap of her tiny hand makes everything fine. And if you want to smile from ear to ear immediately when Taffy has a coughing fit, a concerned Hadley comes up to Taffy’s ear and asks her if she is okay. Taffy doesn’t answer, of course, so ask everyone nearby if she’s okay. How can you not smile and feel good afterwards !!
