Police K9 fight against cancer with the help of his community

Chelan County is a county in Washington with approximately 77,000 residents. As in many areas of the United States, Chelan County has four-legged officers to keep residents safe.

Ruben, the K9 officer in the Chelan County Sheriff’s Department, was recently diagnosed with cancer. The department relies on public help to ensure Ruben and his other four-legged friends get the medical care they need.

Ruben has a snoop with massive responsibility

K9 Ruben is a perfect mix of Labrador, Boxer and Pitbull. He is proud to have served his community over the past four years. Ruben is an incredible pup with massive responsibility! While Chelan County itself is roughly 3,000 square miles, Ruben is the only drug dog as far as the eye can see.

It’s actually much further. He is responsible for tracking down drugs over an area of approximately 13,000 square kilometers! This is a snoop who works a lot of overtime!

“K9 Ruben plays an important role in the fight against drugs in the valley. In 2020 Ruben had 61 service requests and 56 positive warnings, ”wrote the Chelan County Sheriff’s Department. “He reported 4 seized firearms, $ 8,818, 19 Suboxon, 55 Xanax, 93 Oxycodone, 24 ounces meth, 18.9 ounces heroin. Ruben is also used for school demonstrations. “

He passed the first hurdle to defeat cancer

Rubens’ diagnosis of cancer came as a bit of a shock since he is only four years old. Many of the police’s K9s have been working for around nine years. This means that Rubens Community depends on him for many more drug busts!

Fortunately, Rubens’ cancerous lump on his hind leg was recently removed. However, his long-term treatment plan has yet to be determined. One thing is certain: Ruben is ready to go back to work! ‘

“K9 Rubens’ surgery to remove the cancer from his hind leg was successful. He’s recovering calmly at home, but doesn’t like the fact that he can’t go to work while he’s recovering, ”the Chelan County Sheriff recently wrote on Facebook.

Ruben is a key member of the Chelan County’s Sheriff’s Department. He was adopted as a puppy from the local animal shelter. Ruben joined the Chelan County Sheriff’s Department in 2016. Little did Ruben know that he would quickly become a local hero! The Masonic Lodge in Wenatchee made Rubens’ career possible.

“Ruben Rose was deputy sheriff for many years and a longtime member of the Freemasons. When Ruben Rose died, the masons paid for all Rubens training and launch equipment, including a car, ”said Sergeant Bruce Long.

Sergeant Long also says Ruben is a “big clown” weighing a lovable 70 pounds!

K9 Ruben’s operation was paid for by the Chelan County K9 Donation Fund. The fund relies solely on public donations. If you would like to help Ruben and other K9s with their medical care, you can send donations here:
