Enjoy a beer and a snack while your pup plays in Michigan’s first indoor dog park

When temperatures drop, all we humans want to do is stay warm. Dogs still need their exercise, however, which often leaves people walking around the dog park with cold toes and a little impatience. A new business in western Michigan aims to turn that non-ideal winter chore into a fun, warm activity.

“The Pack” is more than just an indoor dog park. It also has a daycare center and even serves food and drink to its human customers. While people watch their dogs play, they enjoy snacks and heated air.

Raechel Macqueen, partner, told Fox the idea came from the need for a dog park that is safe and fun for people and dogs of all ages.

“We found that we really have nowhere to go where I feel good [my daughter] for them to be able to sit and be separated from the dogs because some dogs really don’t appreciate children. Somewhere where we could sit for a coffee or a bagel sandwich or whatever while our dog could run and play and move around. “

Any Midwest can tell you how brutal the winters get around there. Few honestly enjoy standing in the cool wind while their dog is playing. Not to mention those steamy summer hikes. The pack can be your dog’s indoor training solution.

“Personally, after about 15 or 20 minutes my toes will be frozen and I’m ready to be done, even if my dog isn’t quite done. Even in summer, when the days are unbearably hot, I’m ready to be in the air conditioner after too long, even if my dog isn’t ready. “

Safety and cleanliness are paramount

The first time your dog visits, they will be evaluated to ensure a safe and fun visit to the dog park for everyone. Macqueen said:

“We can get an idea of how they like to play, what they enjoy, that they enjoy playing in a group and that it will be a good experience for everyone.”

Pet parents also need to make sure their dog’s vaccinations are up to date.

“We need some vaccinations that owners can upload themselves, or we’d be happy to ask your vet to get them for you. We ask if you have any behavioral questions so that our staff know what to expect from your dog and what to look out for on their first visits. “

The staff monitor the dogs while they are playing and also take care of the clutter that is left behind. The floors were easy to clean. The pack does everything to make the dog park fun and comfortable.

“We were very careful to do construction work and staff training so that everyone would feel welcome to come here, dog owners or not. Everyone just feels good when they walk into the room that it is fun and a positive experience for them and their dogs. “

Officially open to you and your dog’s business

Although The Pack has to postpone a scheduled summer opening due to the coronavirus, it officially opened in January 2021. If you are there and want to pay a visit, you can first register your dog online.

Priced, dog parking options include an annual membership of $ 200 or a 5 visit punch card for $ 30. You can also get on your dog for half a day for $ 15 or $ 30 for a full day.

According to Macqueen, a tempting menu of shareables like pizza and curd cheese will be served on-site once it’s pandemic-proof. They will also serve craft beers and ciders. For the people, of course.
