A kitten with a cute face and a strong will to live was given a chance to fight. He is determined to thrive and live a full life.
Muppet, the kitten, was born with facial deformities (including cleft palate, cleft lip) and hydrocephalus. He needed special care and someone who would take a risk for him. Although he was a little different, he showed an incredible determination from the start.
Audrey, a carer from Murphy’s Safe Haven (an Edinburgh, Texas animal rescue service) saw the request for the little tuxedo and immediately offered to help. “Kitties like him can live long, healthy lives when they are with the right person who gives them a chance,” shared Audrey Love Meow.
While she was on the phone with another volunteer who was picking up the kitten, she heard a strong, loud meow in the background. “I couldn’t believe it when she said it was Muppet who was meowing.”
Within hours of the kitten coming to the rescue, they learned how special and resilient he was. “He had such a will to live and didn’t let anything pass him by,” Audrey told Love Meow.
Because of its cleft palate, Muppet must be safely fed through a feeding tube every two hours to prevent aspiration. He stays in a cozy incubator that regulates his body temperature and has an oxygen supply to strengthen his lungs and make his breathing easier.
The tuxedo boy is tiny but has a powerful voice. Never shy of telling people what he wants, he has an insatiable appetite and determination to grow big and strong.
“Muppet knows when it’s time to feed. He’ll wake up and wait in front of the incubator for me to feed him. And if I’m a few minutes late, he’ll start screaming,” shared Audrey Love Meow.
The little miracle kitten takes every day step by step and eats like a champion. He seems so pleased with the attention and help from his people and is happy with his full stomach after every meal.
Muppet has no eyes, but has amazing instincts and an incredible fighting spirit. As he grows, his other senses develop, helping him navigate and act like any other cat.
His foster family celebrates every milestone. You are amazed at his sheer will to live and how far he has come in just a few days.
“Despite his looks, he’s full of life. He’ll scream his head off until he gets what he wants. Kitties with special needs deserve a shot too,” shared Audrey.
The little warrior kitten just turned a week yesterday. He has put on weight and built muscle and strength in his legs.
Muppet works to perfect his balance and even tries to crawl and move around a bit. The tuxedo boy always surprises his people with what he can do.
“He’s doing so well. We started him on medication for his hydrocephalus and it’s been helping so far,” said Audrey Love Meow.
“Muppet is so strong and has such a unique personality. He is so full of life and he has no idea that he is different.”
