Animal Rescue Refuses to Return Lost Dog to Family

If you’ve ever lost a dog, you know the sigh of relief you feel when they’re found. But imagine what would happen if you knew where your lost dog was but couldn’t get it back.

This is what Kansas dog parent Jessica Palacio saw. Her dog Capone was lost on March 31st and she looked for him everywhere. Then Unleashed Pet Rescue, where she adopted him, found him and told her to pick him up. But when she did that, the rescue refused to give Capone back. The exact rationale is still unclear, but it seems that the story is much more than that.

Palacio first received an email from the rescue at Easter. It was stated that they had found their lost dog and that there would be some fees to get it back. They were able to confirm that Capone was their dog because of his microchip. Palacio loved it so she brought the dues to the rescue to get her dog back.

But when it arrived the response was the opposite of the email. The staff told her that her dog was not available. When Palacio asked for her dog and refused to leave, the police interfered. Now Palacio is no longer allowed to enter the premises.

“They said he was not available … I mean, I have 15 different stories about why I couldn’t take my dog with me,” Palacio said. “When I had to go home to tell my daughter we couldn’t get the dog back, she was upset because this is her baby. He’s everyone’s baby you know “

Palacio contacted the ambulance’s owner, Danielle Reno, several times to no avail. She even sent other people to the rescue for answers about her dog. But for some reason the staff are trying very hard to keep Capone. Palacio is unduly concerned because Capone suffers from extreme allergies at this time of year.

Reno still hasn’t reached out to share her side of the story, but she did provide a few details when asked. She stated that Palacio had neglected Capone, but then said that she went “far beyond” to bring him back to his family. The details of this possible neglect are unclear, but there may be more to this situation than Palacio says.

Palacio said she was told she could apply to re-adopt Capone, but that was the only way to get him back. And since Reno believes she is neglecting the dog, it is unlikely that they would even approve her application for adoption. Palacio’s family is currently in a difficult and frustrating situation.

“Just give me my dog back,” said Palacio. “I don’t understand why this is a difficult subject for you. I think they thought I was going to give up now, but I’ll fight, I want my dog home. “

Hopefully Reno will speak soon to clear up some things. It seems like much information about the situation is still not being discussed. But no matter what, it looks like both parties will continue to hold their own. Hopefully the final decision is what is best for Capone.
