Meet 26-year-old British-Nigerian entrepreneur, Silas Adekunle, whose creation is taking America, and the world, by storm.
Dubbed the world’s youngest and highest paid robotics engineer, Silas created MekaMon, the world’s first augmented reality gaming robot, that gives users the ability to get out from behind their screen, modify a real robot, then leverage it to face-off globally.
Apple was quick to recognize Adekunle’s uniqueness and success, and offer MekaMon a coveted spot in their stores across the U.S. That success continued with Apple the MekaMon Beserker V2 last month, including an exclusive color available in select Apple stores across the country.
Silas and his company, Reach Robotics, creates the MekaMon line not only for entertainment, but leverages it as a tool to promote and support STEM learning across the world.
Silas and his team just launched the MekaMon Beserker V2, now globally available on his website, including in Apple Stores, b8ta stores and Amazon.
Apple’s Head of Developer Relations, Ron Okamoto, carefully surveyed other potential competing robots when MekaMon launched in 2017, but decided MekaMon was the one. “It’s got character,” he noted.
Their expected 15-minute chat went on for more than an hour. And just like that the Forbes 30 Under 30 honoree, inked a deal to sell his invention, MekaMon, in Apple stores in 2017. With no previous ties, Adekunle and his team of nine were suddenly working with the world’s largest brand.
All great things start small and MekaMon a robot made out of baked beans cans and tennis balls.
With a natural passion for robotics, Silas began to build his empire by watching YouTube videos, coding, and attending the University of the West of England. Determined to build a more complex product with a more reasonable cost for the typical gamer, Silas began experimenting on the first moving prototypes for what would soon be known as MekaMon.
Straddling the real and virtual realm with next-gen augmented reality game play, MekaMon lives and plays alongside you. MekaMon offers an unrivaled gaming experience and endless opportunities to experiment, customize, and learn with next level robotics. MekaMon’s cutting edge look, smooth movements, and real emotion is what allowed it to stand out from already existing products, such as Sony Aibo robot.
